The department of Drawing and Painting offers courses at both UG and PG Level under the annual scheme at UG & Semester Scheme at PG Level.

At the under-graduate level Drawing & Painting is offered as a one of the optional subjects to be studied / opted by the students of Arts Stream. The department also offers Post Graduation in Drawing & Painting as a specialized course.

UG Programme Learning Outcome:

Programme Outcome 1 | Creative thinking, Concept and Content building and understanding of the creative process:

  • Through rigorous training and continuous practice, the students will learn the process involved in creating still life, Creative design, Compositions, Portraits and Life Study etc.
  • By inculcating independent thinking students will be able to explore & create new & unique ideas and use a variety of techniques required for successful image development.
  • Through theoretical and practical learning they are encouraged to demonstrate their creativity and research aptitude, understand the creative process involved in creation of work of art and at the same time students are made to realise their innate potential.

Programme Outcome 2 | Development of Skill and Technique

  • The curriculum is so designed that the students will be able to develop perceptual skills and learn drawing methods, styles and painting techniques in diverse medium like water colour, oil, acrylic etc.
  • Skill enhancement is the main aim of the course therefore students will learn the necessary skills sets. Amply opportunities is provided through Classroom teaching, events, workshops, live demonstrations of various techniques  and the wide range of opportunities provided to the students helps them to develop their artistic skills and creative talent exponentially.

Programme Outcome 3 | Communication and demonstration of Ideas

  • Students are encouraged to communicate the concept, content,  and creative  process  visually, orally and in writing through participation in classroom discussions, art exhibition, art competitions, demonstrations, attending Art Fair & Seminars etc.

Programme Outcome  4 | Social, Economic & Environmental  Impact :

  • Students will learn ethical and civic values through activities of social relevance, CSR activities and mentoring sessions.
  • Students will be able to voice their free and fair opinion on socio-political and economic issues by participating in classroom discussions, art competitions & activities on relevant issues etc.
  • Students might achieve a degree of self-reliance.
  • They will be able to set future goals/ career path by acquiring pre-requisite artistic skill sets.

  • Students will be able to use and develop ideas that are relevant to the artistic field and adaptable and responsive to the needs the real world.
  • Through extensive and specialised training students will learn variety of art styles and understand complex process involved .
  • Through theoretical and practical learning they are encouraged to demonstrate their innate creativity and are made to realise their potential to the fullest.
  •  Students will exhibit their contextual & conceptual knowledge of art and research aptitude through study of the art history of varied cultures, modern and contemporary art, and implementing them in creating a work of art.

Programme Outcome 3 | Communication of Ideas and Context

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding significance of the visual arts and its relevance to the academic practice, to other arts, and to daily life through critical reflective discussions about art.
  • Students will be able to clearly communicate the content, concept and process of their work : visually, orally and in writing through  individual portfolio building, participation in art exhibition, art competitions, demonstrations, attending Art Fair & Seminars, via -voices, projects, discussions  etc.
  • Students will exhibit knowledge of art forms, artists, and art works from varied historical and contemporary perspective.
  • Students will engage in aesthetic analysis and understand their creative practice and the skills and techniques of other artists through the process of observing, visualising, reading, and interpreting them through project work and study of art work.

 Programme Outcome  4 | Social, Economic & Environmental  Impact :

  • Congenial atmosphere and creative thinking will help the students to   develop confidence, self-reflection and self-assessment.
  • Students understand the value and importance of visual art as a dynamic and life -long learning process that helps them to work independently or collaboratively, to develop team and community relationships and advocate for art education.
  • Students achieve self-reliant by acquiring pre-requisite artistic skill sets.
  • Develop and augment understanding of professional ethics, needs and responsibilities as an art professional
  • Students will learn ethical and civic values through activities of social relevance, CSR activities  and mentoring sessions.
  • Students will be able to voice their free and fair opinion on socio-political and economic issues as artist is part of the society and the art works mirror the ‘ Passage of Time’.

Program Purpose :

The art department offers a broad selection of papers semester -wise for pursing art : From traditional academic  painting and  to artisanal craft-based medium such as relief mural art in varied mediums like Paper Mache, wood, fiber, ceramics, metal,  glass and scrap to folk art & tribal art styles; to print making, modern and abstract art and to community-based genres, such as eco art and art of social relevance, students are certain to find a field  that best suits their creativity expressive style. Comprehensive study of art history both Indian, Oriental, Persian and Western art offers opportunities to the students to analyse art from multiple perspectives.

The students are exposed to art in an environment that championed reality over mere textbook comprehension—facilitating both their creativity and nurturing their artistic sensibilities. The events and the wide range of opportunities provided to the students helps them develop their artistic skills and creative talent exponentially. For the painter, the canvas comes with unlimited possibilities. For the learner, the potential and possibilities further expand. For the students of the Art Department, the limits of their potential are pushed while the possibilities both explored and extended.

 

Career Opportunities :

Our students can work as free-lance professional artists, Art Teachers, College Lecturers, landscape painters, Mural designers, illustrators, gallery directors and art therapists and in many more allied fields. Many art students pursue Doctoral course from University,  while some explore business opportunities such as setting-up hobby classes, art galleries etc. and while others opt working in Schools, Colleges and design firms etc.
